Meeting the Challenges

The Government's spending proposals have seen major cuts in public sector budgets especially large scale regeneration, with the expectation that the private sector, co-operatives or a new kind of volunteering will enter into an arena of service provision previously occupied by Central or Local Government. There is still a great deal of uncertainty about what this “Big Society” agenda means in practice.

Thamesmead is changing and changing fast - we have one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in South London, with significant increases in families with young children and people many of whom originate from West Africa.
