“As a charitable trust we operate within the same difficult economic environment as others. Most charities income is derived from grants, donations and contracts whereas most of our income comes from the successful trading of Tilfen Land Limited, a property development and investment company with roots in Thamesmead. Yet conditions are as challenging for Tilfen as they are for most charities pursuing public sector grants or donations from charitable supporters.

“The social issues arising from the downturn also mean that the demands on our resources are increasing. There is, therefore, a big challenge to do more with less.

"Thanks to our careful financial management, over the years we have avoided overspending on our revenue budget and have been very careful in monitoring and managing our reserves, which we have called upon to ensure we complete our two major projects, Sporting Club Thamesmead and The Link Thamesmead.

"I am very proud of the way we have managed our finances and of our two capital projects and what they will offer to the Thamesmead community."
