Ray volunteers his time at various community groups and initiatives across Thamesmead including Moorings Action Together, CADZ Productions, Thamesmead Furniture Recycle and the Moorings Safer Neighbourhood Team.
He has even been known to get his hands dirty helping to clean Thamesmead’s canal system whilst volunteering with Thames21!
“I didn’t have any pre-conceived ideas about volunteering before I started, just that I knew it was what I wanted to do whilst I was unemployed and I have carried on ever since.
“I choose to volunteer because it gives something back to the community and at the same time makes me feel satisfied about myself; I have gained in confidence, learnt new skills and met many people from all over Thamesmead.
“My advice would be to try volunteering for at least a month and see where it takes you, then ask yourself “What does it bring to me and my community?”
