Tahlia may only be in her teens but she is a dedicated volunteer and a great example of what we are looking for. She not only regularly meets with the Trust as a member of Thamesmead Youth Voice but regularly helps out at projects and events in Thamesmead.
“My role as a member of Thamesmead Youth Voice includes volunteering my time to organise and deliver events for young people and the wider community.
“TYV played a huge role in helping Trust Thamesmead to secure £5m myplace funding for The Link Thamesmead, which will be a place that young people and the wider community can take advantage of activities from indoor climbing, singing, dancing and drama classes, water sports and a recording studio to spaces for hire, including a 160 seater performance space and training courses. I’m hoping everyone will love it as much as I do having worked on the project so closely; from securing the funding to working on the branding and gaining residents views about the activities they wanted to see.
“TYV has made a great difference in the local community and now work closely with several different clubs and groups in Thamesmead.
“I chose to volunteer because I wanted to give something back to my community and really help to make a difference. I thought that it is important for me to have a say in things that will affect me and I wanted to do something pro-active with my time and what better way to use it?
“I have personally achieved so much and through TYV, from presenting information to several hundred people, as well as the UK’s Children’s Commissioner, to becoming a young ambassador, representing London in the Lions Clubs International search for a European Ambassador of the 21st century, which saw me get through to the finals and win a sum of money for TYV’s work.
“Trust Thamesmead have supported TYV so much in order for us to be where we are now, so come join us, joining TYV will definitely lead you to a brighter future.”
