International Day of Older Persons

Around 50 older residents of Thamesmead joined the Trust at The Atrium on Friday 1 October to celebrate International Day of Older Persons, which aims to begin the process that will lead to the development and acceptance of rights for the elderly, who in 2012, it is believed will make up 50% of the UK's nation.

The day begun with service providers; Bexley Recycling, Bexley and Greenwich Dental Care Service, London TaxiCard Scheme, Bexley Health Trainers and the Bexley Alzheimer's Society giving free advice and guidance, which was followed by lunch and a sing-a-long by the Diamond Divas, made up of five lovely ladies whose average age is 75.

Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer for central Thamesmead, Linda Delieu said: “The day was a huge success; it was great to see so many service providers and familiar faces, especially those from the Pop in Parlour, Friends of The Atrium and other over 50s groups the Trust works with, as well as Trust Thamesmead's Life Long President Ted and wife Pat Claridge” adding “Thank you to everyone who helped.”
