New health and wellbeing hub opens in Thamesmead.
Based in the heart of Thamesmead, the former One O'Clock Club, now known as Birchmere Community Hub, is currently open three days per week (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays). Offering stay and play parent and toddler cook and eat sessions, a community garden, a community café and provides space for Health Champion meetings, the community hub is looking to extend its offer and opening hours over the coming months.
Peabody's Chief Executive, Stephen Howlett said: “Offering a number of health and wellbeing activities, we hope the community will like what the new centre has to offer. Thank you goes to the service providers who call Birchmere Community Hub their home whilst offering a number of health and wellbeing activities to the community, and a huge thank you goes to our partners who have played a vital role in getting the centre ready for public use. This would not have been possible without their support.”
The Peabody Group works with a number of Community groups and organisations across Thamesmead, offering physical and mental wellbeing projects; inspiring people to get active, eat more healthily, learn new skills and discover new opportunities.
The completely refurbished hub was funded with a grant from Cory Environmental Trust, ‘in kind' materials and labour from contractors Axis Europe Plc and support from a number of other partners.
