International Picnic in Thamesmead

Trust Thamesmead worked in partnership with Gallion's Urban Village Neighbourhood Action (GUVNA) this year on their international picnic which took place at the Reach, West Thamesmead on Sunday, 31 August.

The weather may have been glum but that didn't stop approximately 300 people attending.

The picnic has been running for a number of years to encourage community cohesion; bringing residents from various backgrounds together, to give them a chance to talk and sample foods from different countries such as Greece, Tunisia, Jamaica and of course Britain.

The picnic hosted a number of activities such as Tai Chi taster sessions, mask making, circus skills, raffles, an arts and crafts stall, toddler's area and a bouncy castle.

As well as GUVNA and Trust Thamesmead engaging with residents, a number of other community groups were present, including the Safer Neighbourhoods Team, the Open Gateway Church and Greenwich Council's Active for Health.

Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer Romel Holmes-Lewis said: “The event was a massive success, recording the largest number of attendees to date.”
