Fantastic Fair Finance Feedback
The Trust’s partnership with Fair Finance has now been running almost a year and a half; long enough for us to be able to collate and report some fantastic feedback and statistics, proving what an amazing and invaluable resource Fair Finance is to residents in Thamesmead.
Overseeing the partnership is Linda Delieu, a member of our Community Development team.
“The statistics back up the need for the partnership with Fair Personal Loans seeing 471 clients during this period, 287 of whom were already using high cost credit.
“The total value of loans requested to date is £354,050 and the total value of loans approved £146,265. Those clients who are unable to be approved for a loan that they cannot afford are instead offered Fair Finance’s free debt advice service.
“Our partnership has provided free confidential debt advice to almost 100 clients and has helped to prevent homelessness on several occasions when a client has been given notice of eviction by their landlord.
“Clients can be supported to tackle their debts and helped to develop a clear plan for dealing with their debts. Some clients will see their debt adviser over a period of time particularly if they have multiple debts and other issues as well. For those clients who need a loan Fair Personal Loans offers an alternative to a high interest door step or pay day loan.
“All loan applications are dealt with in person and even if someone is on benefits or had County Court Judgements against them they can still apply. Clients have to provide information and paperwork as evidence that they can afford to take out the loan.
“Our plans for the future include building on the Financial Capability workshops, more outreach, better partnerships with organisations such as Greenwich and Bexley Credit Union, Thamesmead Furniture Recycle and Thamesmead Food Bank.”
