T'riffic Thamesmead
Have you ever wondered how Thamesmead got its name or what used to be here before the town existed?
T’riffic Thamesmead is a partnership project that was established between Trust Thamesmead and all 15 schools (primary and secondary) in 2008, when more than 750 children participated in the project.
The aim was/is to celebrate Thamesmead, encourage residents and pupils to feel proud of where they live and to help them develop a sense of belonging and place.
Now available to the wider community, this area of the Trust Thamesmead website supports the education packs that have been developed for the project. It contains additional resources which can be downloaded and used by residents, teachers and pupils alike including secret maps of the area dating from 1931 and the 24 page supplement produced by the Mercury newspaper to herald the beginning of Thamesmead in August 1968.
We would like to continue to develop this section so if you have anything you would like to contribute please contact us.
Thank you for your interest in T’riffic Thamesmead.
