Crossness Engines

There's an amazing building at the northern tip of Thamesmead, right beside the river.

It's the Crossness Pumping Station which has some of the most spectacular ornamental Victorian cast ironwork around today as well as its four original engines which are possibly the largest of their kind in the world.

The complex of Grade I and Grade II listed buildings are looked after by the Crossness Engines Trust, which is trying to save the buildings and secure the site for future generations.
