What We Do
We work in partnership with others to increase community and social infrastructure, to promote neighbourhood renewal and help combat social and economic exclusion.
We act as a gateway to bringing in other services that are needed by local people, helping to bring funding and opportunities into neighbourhoods from Bexley and Greenwich Councils, external funders and other agencies.
Advocacy is one of our strongest roles, calling for changes in policy and practice, acting as a catalyst for change in public services and regeneration programmes, helping people to get involved in groups and to have a say about local issues and services.
We are committed to the idea of social enterprise, and provide development support to local organisations and businesses who achieve their social aims by reinvesting profits from successful services and activities into our community.
Our Community Development team supports local community organisations through capacity building, helping groups to develop their skills and governance to strengthen community participation by supporting active citizenship and contributing to civic renewal.
We also own and support a number of community buildings which support community activity and deliver a range of sporting, social and leisure activities.
Our Building Futures project is a free service offering support, advice and guidance to local people looking for training and employment. We also work with local employers to identify employment opportunities.
Finally, our £11m capital investment projects, Sporting Club Thamesmead and The Link Thamesmead, will be open for business in early 2012, providing world class facilities for our young people and local communities.
