Beware of fire, do not leave candles or naked flames unattended; check your smoke alarm too

Don't leave valuables unattended in your car when out Christmas shopping or visiting family and friends

Be careful when disposing boxes that gifts were in; do you really want chancers to know you got a Wii for Christmas?

If leaving the house for long periods over Christmas ensure you have lighting on a timer switch that gives the appearance someone is home

When out shopping be aware of your surroundings, taking particular care at cash point machines

Take extra care of your handbag or wallet when in crowds over Christmas

Remember Christmas can be lonely for many people, especially elderly neighbours. Why not pop in and see them or invite them round for a cuppa?

Don't drink and drive!!!

Top Tips for Waste and Recycling

Recycle Christmas cards at participating WH Smith, TK Maxx and M&S stores between 2-31 January 2010 (in aid of the Woodland Trust).

Otherwise, recycle Christmas cards in your recycle bin; it also takes boxes, wrapping paper, bottles and more!

Old, unwanted furniture can be re-used at Gallions Resident's Board Furniture Bank, T: 0800 83 84 81.

Unwanted presents can be given to your favourite charity shop or re-gift to a friend.
