The Dualers play in Thamesmead

Everyone has heard of the group The Dualers but not many people know more than the name. But on Wednesday, 25 August 2010, during the last of a month-long Thamesmead Extended Schools Cluster summer activity days, which were supported by the Trust, we were able to put a name to a face and music, when they performed two 40 minute sets at the event based at Woolwich Poly in Hutchins Road, Thamesmead.

Tyber, the lead singer of the group which is made up of brothers Tyber and Si told us: “It's great playing in Thamesmead. We used to live in Greenwich, so we feel like we've come home.

“Today has been brilliant on so many levels, not only because we used to live nearby but because the crowd were good fun; dancing and singing along to the songs.”

Six years ago The Dualers began their singing career busking in high streets before they became the first ever street performers to make it into the U.K. chart, with their first and most recognisable single Kiss on the Lips. A year later they charted again at number 23 with second single Truly, Madly, Deeply (not to be confused with Savage Garden's song of the same title), which was featured in Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's movie Fools Gold.

“We couldn't believe it when we found out Truly had been picked for the soundtrack of a Hollywood blockbuster.” Said Tyber, joking: “We didn't even get to go to the UK premiere. We don't mind though, we're just chuffed our music has reached millions of people.”

All this success and the band still don't have a record label. Tyber told us: “More and more people are making it in the industry without the big labels behind them; there are so many other avenues that are open to musicians these days.” adding. “We wouldn't say never to The X Factor but we want to try and make it on our own. We're going to give it one last, big push next year, when we release our next single (April 2011).

“We are looking for local people to appear in our next music video; we were really impressed with your Thamesmead Youth Voice member Jecoliah Frimpong; she's been properly dancing today; she's a true entertainer and we would like to see her feature in our video.”
