Sporting Club Thamesmead's Centre Manager, Simon Jones together with Sporting Club Thamesmead's Sports Development Officer, Dan Wells, will be running a lunchtime marathon throughout the week commencing Monday 26 March in aid of Sport Relief.
The marathon, which will see them run five miles every lunchtime, Monday - Thursday this week and a 6.2 mile run on Friday, started with a send-off ceremony attended by their colleagues at Trust Thamesmead and some local, Thamesmead traders.
Simon Jones said “Dan and I run a couple of times a week in our lunch hour, so we thought we would see if we could do a marathon during a week's-worth of lunch hours, whilst raising money for Sport Relief.”
They both agreed to dress-up on the first day - neither of them knew what outfit their colleague had picked “It was Dan's idea to dress-up on the first day, which will see us running from Thamesmead Town Centre to Belmarsh Prison, back along Eastern Way, along the ridgeway, down Carlyle Road, via Sporting Club Thamesmead and back to Trust Thamesmead's office in Thamesmead Town Centre.” said Simon.
“Even though we aren't competing against each other, I picked an outfit that would be really hot for Dan to wear.”
Dan said “From the moment fancy dress entered my head I knew the outfit I wanted Simon to wear.”
Sporting Club Thamesmead based in Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead, will be opening in the next couple of months. One of the many activities they will be offering is a running team. If anyone is interested, please contact Simon Jones, T: 020 8320 4470 or E: [email protected]
