Peabody is offering a 13-week inclusive evidence-based parenting programme designed to promote good parenting for expectant parents and parents of children aged up to 18 living in Thamesmead.
Delivered by the Race Equality Foundation, the Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities course will cover issues that parents face on a day-to-day basis including how to motivate their child/ren, how to build a better relationship with them and how to develop strong ethnic and cultural roots. How to empower and increase confidence of the parent to help them to achieve positive change in family relationships will also be studied, as will the importance of community involvement.
Peabody’s Chief Executive Stephen Howlett said: “I understand that being a parent can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the world but also one of the most challenging. We at Peabody want to help build a positive relationship between a parent and child which can have a huge, positive impact on families and their community and enable individuals to reach their full potential in life.”
Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Graduate, Njoki Ganly said: "The programme is very informative. Every time I learnt something I shared it with the rest of the family and now we're all on the same page. I have to say, the techniques have been really effective with my youngest son."
Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities Graduate, Tawa Adejoke Amoo said: "I've learnt a lot including little things you wouldn't think of... I've definitely become a better parent for it."
Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities complements Peabody’s Activate Roundtable which is attended by 30 stakeholders from the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to discuss the key changes and barriers which looks at ways of alleviating child poverty in our communities.
The 13-week Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities programme will run 19 September – 19 December from The Link Thamesmead, Belvedere Road, off Harrow Manor Way, Thamesmead, SE2 9BS. Parents/carers can join as late as week four, Friday 10 October.
