And the Winner is...

Thamesmead's leading community development agency and registered charity, Trust Thamesmead held their annual Trust Thamesmead Christmas Card Competition presentation last night.

With the theme based on animals and wildlife, every school pupil in Thamesmead was invited to take part in the competition, in the hope of having their design chosen and used as this year's official Trust Thamesmead Christmas card.

Vice Chair of Trust Thamesmead Ted Claridge who presented the winner and two runners up with a framed copy of their artwork, as well as an arts and crafts set and copies of the winning Christmas card to send to family and friends said: “Thank you to all the schools that took part; Discovery, Castilion, St John Fisher, Hawksmoor and Windrush primary schools as well as Woolwich Polytechnic.

“We received more than 400 entries and every year it gets harder to judge. The quality of the artwork is outstanding-everyone who took part should be very proud of themselves.

“It wasn't easy picking a winner but a winner we have. Well done to year 3 student from Windrush Primary School, William Hancock, who designed this year's card which is vibrant and fun with a blue background and lovely red robins sat on a fence.

“Congratulations also goes to our two runners-up; Year 7 student from Woolwich Poly, Connor Trotman and ex-Arnott pre-school pupil and reception student from Castilion Primary School, Aishat Adegbindin.”

Head of Communications and Marketing, Elaine Johnson went on to tell those present; three winning pupils, their parents, siblings and teachers about the Trust's work with the local schools; this week being a great example with the Christmas card competition, World Cup Draw and Thamesmead Travelled play happening on two consecutive days.

Marketing and Communications Officer, Julia Hickson said: “As always, the event was a delight to work.” Said Julia. “The pupils were really excited about attending and the proud parents were even more excited than their children!”
