Trust Thamesmead supported Moorings Action Together (M. A. T.) on Wednesday 1 June, at their first public event which was held in Birchmere Park, central Thamesmead.
The event was an opportunity for M.A.T. and the members of the Birchmere Community Garden project, including the London Wildlife Trust, to tell other community members and residents about their projects and potentially recruit new members to work with them to help make the Moorings area a better place to live, work and volunteer.
Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Office for Central Thamesmead, Roz Williams, said: “Around 200 adults and children visited the information tent between 3:00-7:00pm. Information regarding the Birchmere Community Garden project, gardening fact sheets, M.A.T. leaflets and information about the former Moorings Social Club were available, as were members of M. A. T. to talk to about the projects.“
Children's storytelling, arts and crafts, face painting, as well as a BBQ by Aden Catering, which is run by a local resident, were also available.
Deputy Chair of M. A. T., Jo Marchant said: “The residents were keen to find out more about the plans for regenerating the Moorings and community garden and seemed genuinely pleased that something was being done.”
Thamesmead resident and Chair of M. A. T., Don Tidey said: “It was a great day and time well spent, meeting people and letting them know about M. A. T. and our projects. Great interest was shown, with 15 new, fully signed-up members registering to join.”
Roz said “It was a positive result for all the hard work undertaken by M.A.T. and other volunteers.”
