There are still spaces available on the Peabody Group's free trip to Peabody’s Kings Cross estate on Saturday 7 March.
This visit has been set up to show Thamesmead residents about Peabody's work elsewhere in the capital. Since acquiring the King’s Cross estate from Islington Council in the 1990s, Peabody has improved the buildings, reduced antisocial behaviour and built a new community hub – the Hugh Cubitt centre.
Meeting at The Link Thamesmead at 9:45am for a 10:00am departure, the coach tour will visit Peabody buildings and community projects, including
- A visit to Priory Green Estate, a 1960s estate designed by the famous architect Berthold Lubetkin and part of an English Heritage conservation area.
- A look around the Hugh Cubitt House – a Peabody run community centre, hub, cafe and training space.
- A short trip up the road to Islington Estate – a classic Victorian Peabody estate built in the 1890s, which has undergone a great deal of improvement work recently
The trip includes a free lunch and transport, departing from The Link in Thamesmead in Belvedere Road, off Harrow Manor Way at 10:00am and returning from King’s Cross at around 2:00pm.
