The Moorings Ward, which takes in Thamesmead Town Centre, will become a safer neighbourhood on 3 April, with the Metropolitan Police providing a Sergeant, one Police Constable and two Police Community Support Officers as part of the Safer Neighbourhood Programme.
These will increase within the year to the ultimate goal of one Sergeant, two Police Constables and three Police Community Support Officers who will be permanently posted in the area.
The Metropolitan Police are wholly committed to the Safer Neighbourhood Programme, where each Electoral Ward will have a Police Safer Neighbourhood Team. Numerous teams are operating throughout London with several already in place within the London Borough of Greenwich. The original plan was for all Safer Neighbourhood teams to be in place before the end of the coming financial year but the scheme has proved so successful that the roll out for all areas is to be brought forward to 3 April.
Officers will continue to be based at Thamesmead Police Station, Titmuss Avenue.
