Trust Thamesmead is returning to the waters on Monday 19 July to carrying on with the Trust Thamesmead/Thames21 joint canal clean-ups in Thamesmead, as part of their new staff volunteering policy.
The clean-up on 19 July is just one of five happening over the summer months. “We were all surprised at how much rubbish we pulled out of the canal during our last clean-up; 0.130 tons worth which is the equivalent of 24 stone!” said Trust Thamesmead's Marketing and Communication's Officer Julia Hickson. “The clean-ups are vital not only for the health and well being of local wildlife but to make the area look cleaner and prettier; a place where people want to live and explore. We really want to get residents involved and take ownership and feel pride in their local area and most of all, enjoy it.”
