Trust Thamesmead recently accompanied 12 young people from Thamesmead Youth Voice (TYV) on a residential to the North West of England. Not only did the residential offer the usual team building activities such as mountain biking and climbing (and the less usual gorge-walking) but it also formed as part of a fact finding mission to two myplace projects; Bolton Lads and Girls Club and Blackburn's Youth Zone progress, to help both TYV and the Trust with ideas for when Thamesmead community hub, The Link Thamesmead opens in 2012.
Around 25 young people took part in the weekend, which saw young people from all three areas working together in groups… and attending a trip to the Blackpool illuminations.
Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer, Sarah Feleppa said: “Everyone got on really well - it was great to see. TYV always get so much out of residentials and they really enjoyed meeting with other young people and showcasing some of their achievements.” But don't take our word for it! This is what members of TYV had to say…
“I enjoyed the gorge walking as it was a once in a lifetime experience and was extremely beautiful.”
- Saynab Sufi
“I really enjoyed the bus journey to Blackpool because it enabled us to mix with those from Bolton and Blackburn, although my most memorable moment is the river walking.”
- Paige Sullivan
“I really enjoyed the bike riding, river walking and meeting new people.”
- Thalia Williamson
