Clean and Gleam

The community around Arnott Close were a force to be reckoned last week when they took part in a Capital Clean-up.

Around 14 members of the community from Trust Thamesmead's Arnott Pre-school children to their parents/carers, staff and residents took part, collecting 16 black bin bags of rubbish.

“It was fantastic to see members of the community getting together to make the area of Arnott Close cleaner and nicer for all who shop here or walk through it.” said Trust Thamesmead’s Childcare Manager, Tracy Norcott, adding: “It shows people care about their community and gives them a sense of pride – which is important to install in someone at a young age.”

Georgie Higgins whose daughter and niece attend Arnott Pre-school said: “It is good for the girls to know what to do with litter from an early age. I think it was also important for them to know they shouldn’t pick rubbish up with their hands.”

Shaun Harvey whose 3.5 year old daughter attends Arnott Pre-school said: “It is great for children to learn about recycling and putting things in the right bins and looking after their own area.”

Arnott Pre-school who were joined by Cuddles the Bear from Waterways Nursery, also worked with Gallions Housing Association’s Neighbourhood Officer, Greenwich Council’s Waste Officer and Clean Up UK to also learn about recycling and what they can be made out of pre-washed rubbish.

Capital Clean-up which is a partnership campaign led by the Mayor of London as part of his Team London volunteering programme to help Londoners green and clean our city through community engagement and participation, donated 10 high visibility jackets, 10 pairs of gloves, 10 grabbers and 10 sack holders to the event.
