Work has started on this year's Trust Thamesmead Summer Festival Parade, which has doubled in size since last year, with 400 Thamesmead primary school pupils set to take part from six different schools - Linton Mead, Heronsgate, St Margaret Clitherow, Hawksmoor, Hawksmoor after school play club and years five and six from Windrush.
Children will be wearing their own creations made out of recyclable goods, including plastic bottles and cereal boxes. Artist-led environmental group, Taru Brazil are helping pupils to create their costumes during school-based workshops.
'I am excited and nervous about taking part in the Summer Festival Parade,' admitted Damola Osobe, a year five pupil at Windrush.
The parade will leave Trust Thamesmead's office at 19a Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead at 11.45am on 15 July and head straight for the festival site at Birchmere Park.
