On-going - The Holocaust Through Photo Exhibition

National Holocaust Memorial Day (UK) was on Sunday 27 January. To remember this event, Trust Thamesmead is providing a small photographic exhibition regarding the Holocaust which is available to view 09:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Thursday 14 February - St Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine's Day embraces a time of year that is historically associated with love and fertility. It encompasses the sacred marriage of Zeus and Hera in Ancient Athens and the Ancient Roman festival of Lupercus, the god of fertility.

Tuesday 26 February - Chinese Book Swap

If you have any unwanted Chinese language books or recent magazines you would like to swap, go along to the Chinese community book swap, 2:30-3:30pm.

Thursday 6 March - World Book Day

World Book Day moves into its second decade in the UK and Ireland in 2008.  Over this relatively short period World Book Day has become firmly established as the biggest annual event promoting the enjoyment of books and reading.


Saturday 8 March - International Women's Day

International Women's Day has been observed since the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialised world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.


Monday 10 March - Commonwealth Day

Commonwealth Day is an annual event during which all the 54 member countries of the Commonwealth celebrate their links with one another. Held on the second Monday in March every year, the day is celebrated around the world, from Head of the Commonwealth, Her Majesy the Queen who issues a special message, through to Prime Ministers and Presidents to citizens.


Monday 10 March - Applications open for The T Factor Auditions

Trust Thamesmead is holding its third annual talent competitions, The T Factor again this year.

All you need to do to be in with a chance of competiting for the chance of performing in front of thousands at this year's Trust Thamesmead Summer Festival is fill in an application form and send it in to Danny and hope you are picked to take part in the audition.

Friday 14 March - Sport Relief starts

Sport Relief believes the power and passion of sport can change lives for the better and by taking part and having fun people are able to raise thousands of pounds for charity and feel good in the process.

Every Tuesday - Tai Chi for the over 55's

Trust Thamesmead and Gallions Housing Association are funding a six month Tai Chi class for the over 55's which starts today, Tuesday, 5 February.

Tai Chi aims to improve balance and breating and help to prevent falls.

Every Tuesday - Walking Group

Take in the wonderful walks and sights that Thamesmead has to offer, 10:30am today and every Tuesday, starting at the Lakeside Complex by Southmere Lake. All local residents welcome. The walk will last approximately 40-50 minutes and refreshments (at a minimal cost) will be held afterwards at the Lakeside Complex.

Last Tuesday of Every Month - Epilepsy Support Group

Thamesmead based Epilepsy Support Group meet 7:00-9:00pm on the last Tuesday of every month and is open to Thamesmead residents who suffer with epilepsy as well as their family and friends.

Every Wednesday - Over 50's Chair Based Exercise Class

Calling all adults over 50! The Friends of the Atrium run a free chair based exercise class, tailor made to meet individual requirements. Trust Thamesmead has secured funding from City Bridge Trust, so it is free for Thamesmead residents.

Every Wednesday - Over 50's Chair Based Exercise Class

The over 50's armchair exercise class at The Atrium proved so popular, we have set up another armchair exercise class to run at a different venue. This is a joint initiative between Trust Thamesmead and the Arnott Senior Citizens and Disabled Club and Trust Thamesmead has secured funding from the Lottery, so it is free for Thamesmead residents.

Every Thursday - Free Tai Chi Classes

Try this ancient Chinese form of co-ordinated body movements focusing on harmonising the mind, body and spirit and promoting both mental and physical well-being through softness and relaxation.

These classes are a joint initiative between Trust Thamesmead, Bexley Adult Education and Friends of the Atrium.

Trust Thamesmead has secured funding from Bexley Adult Education so it is free for Thamesmead residents.

Every Thursday - Yoga Classes

Trust Thamesmead have teamed up with Greenwich Community College in a joint initiative providing yoga classes every Thursday in Thamesmead, so why not work on every aspect of your body - building up strength, stamina, toning, flexibility and your well being?

A two hour class 9:30-11:30am. Just £2.20 per two hour session. Places must be pre-booked.

Every Friday - Fresh Fruit and Veg Stall

Trust Thamesmead and Greenwich Community Food Coop have launched a fresh fruit and veg stall, open 10:30am-2:30pm every Friday. Benefits of which include...

• Run by the community for the community

Every Friday - Bexley Adult College

Nicola from Bexley Adult College is on hand at Trust Thamesmead's offices 10:00am-12:00pm every Friday, to advise clients who have been referred by Trust Thamesmead's training and job department, Building Futures, to talk to unemployed Thamesmead residents about their goals and ambitions and the training on offer to help them achieve these.

Walk around Bostall Heath from the Bowling Green, Bostall Heath, every Friday at 10:00am.


1st Saturday of every month - Thamesmead Moorings Safer Neighbourhoods Team Drop in Surgeries

Pop in and meet your local Safer Neighbourhood Officers and discuss with them any concerns that you have about your local community, 10:00-11:30am.

Every Saturday - Family Learning

This class is to help kids who are having difficulties with their homework. Parents are encouraged to attend too, so they can learn about their child's school work and learn how they may be able to help them in the future. No subject is off limits.

This is a 12 week course that runs 3:45-5:30pm every Monday and 10:00am-12:00pm every Saturday.

Sessions are free but you do need to be a library member. Please prebook.

Every Saturday during February '08 - Extra Support in Reading, Writing and Maths

JMF support group for unseen disabilities are piloting an extra curricular scheme in February 2008 for children on the Autism Spectrum and other related conditions.

The scheme is aimed at children 5-11 years old. Transport will be provided for picking up and dropping on. JMF are asking parents contribute by providing snacks, papers and pens/pencils or wahtever you can afford to support them.

Weekends from January 2008 - Numeracy and Literacy at Weekends

The London Education Foundation Limited (LEF) is offering supplementary programmes for primary, secondary, SATs and 11+ additional support in numeracy and literacy at weekends , to help children develop self confidence and key skills in numeracy and literacy.

Ongoing until March 2008 - Learning Agreement

Do you know a young person aged 16-17 in a job without any training?

The Learning Agreement (LA) Pilot is an exciting new government funded initiative for young people aged 16-17, currently employed in Jobs Without Training (JWT). The Pilot is based on where the young people live and not work. It is to enable young people to achieve, at least, level 2 qualifications (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C).
