Do you want to be involved in Thamesmead's first ever sports festival?
Trust Thamesmead's youth forum, Thamesmead Youth Voice decided some months ago that they would like to see a youth sports festival held in Thamesmead.
With that in mind, the group of youngsters set about making it happen - and with the support of Trust Thamesmead, it is going to happen, on Friday 18 April.
“The young people thought a sports festival would be an ideal opportunity to bring young people together to have fun and work on a project that will hopefully attract a lot of interest, not only to the sports festival but for the youth forum as well,” said Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Manager and forum leader Janice Songhurst-Jones. “The group has had a say in everything from what sports should be featured, to the marketing of the event.”
The sports that will be available on the day include football, basketball, badminton and tennis. It is free admission, competitions will be run throughout the day, attendees will receive a goodie bag on arrival and local youth providers have been offered the opportunity to have a stall to promote their services.
Janice added: “We are wanting as many young people aged 11-19 who live or go to school in Thamesmead to get involved. All you have to do is get in touch!”
