Seventy New Jobs Created in Thamesmead

Seventy new jobs will be created in Thamesmead next week as a major high street retailer arrives in town.

The new Next store, located on the Cannon Retail Park, will occupy 18,500 sq ft and feature departments dedicated to menswear, women's fashion, children's clothing and the home.

Cannon Retail Park, which is owned and managed by local property investment and development company Tilfen Land, is the major retail hub serving a community of some 40,000 and - along with the adjacent town centre - is already home to high street names such as Argos, Wilkinson, Morrisons, McDonald's and Superdrug.

Nigel Houston, Tilfen Land chief executive, says: “We are delighted to welcome Next to Thamesmead as our newest tenant. This represents a major vote of confidence in the local area.

Given the current uncertain economic outlook, the challenge now is to build on that vote of confidence and we will be looking at other ways in which we can work with the retail sector to create more opportunities for local job creation and economic success.”

Next Thamesmead opens at Cannon Retail Park, Thamesmead at 10.00 on Wednesday 7 December.
