Its hats off to Sporting Club Thamesmead's Centre Manager Simon Jones and Sports Development Officer Dan Wells who have found a novel way to complete a marathon in aid of Sports Relief.
Every lunchtime for five days they ran five miles (with an extra 1.2 miles on the Friday) to complete a full length marathon with the added element of running the first day in fancy dress.
Simon told Trust Talk: “Dan and I run a couple of times a week in our lunch hour, so we thought we would see if we could do a marathon during a week's-worth of lunch hours, whilst raising money for Sport Relief.”
They both agreed to don fancy dress on day one with neither of them knowing what costume had been picked by each other.
“It was Dan's idea to dress-up on the first day, which saw us running from Thamesmead Town Centre to Belmarsh Prison, back along Eastern Way, along The Ridgeway, down Carlyle Road, via Sporting Club Thamesmead and back to Trust Thamesmead's office in Thamesmead Town Centre.
“Even though we aren't competing against each other, I picked an outfit that would be really hot for Dan to wear.”
Dan said “From the moment fancy dress entered my head I knew the outfit I wanted Simon to wear.”
