Investing in South Thamesmead

Residents and community groups In Thamesmead are being asked for their comments on the draft South Thamesmead Regeneration Framework, developed by the Trust, Gallions Housing Association and the London Borough of Bexley.

The framework, which is funded by the Greater London Authority (GLA), sets out plans for investment in South Thamesmead over the next 10-15 years, and includes community led projects, building refurbishments, new-build projects and improvements to parks and streets.

The consultation runs until Friday 10 August and the proposals will be on display at Thamesmead Library during this period. They are also available online:
www.bexley.gov.uk/thamesmeadregeneration

Comments can be given on paper or online. Copies of the questionnaire will be available at Thamesmead Library. The survey is available online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/thamesmeadregeneration

The consultation aims to build on the significant momentum created by recent investments, including the opening of Willow Bank Primary School, Lakeside Medical Centre and the Thames Innovation Centre, and on-going projects at Southmere Village, Crossness Pumping Station, Sporting Club Thamesmead and The Link Thamesmead.

Trust Chief Executive Mick Hayes said: "Our aim is to make Thamesmead a stable and successful community. We are keen to hear from local residents and community groups, to ensure their priorities for their own community are recognised too."

Cllr Linda Bailey, Cabinet Member for Economic Development & Regeneration said: "Bexley, Gallions Housing Association, Trust Thamesmead and the Greater London Authority have worked hard in recent years to see that Thamesmead's community receives the investment it needs. The development of this framework is a key step in ensuring we have the right approach to delivering both physical and social regeneration."

Ian Beckett, Director of Development and Regeneration at Gallions Housing Association said: "The combination of projects in the framework will enable us to make significant improvements throughout the area, and create a safer, stronger neighbourhood."

A series of events around Thamesmead have also been arranged, to capture feedback from a wide group of people. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet officers from the partner organisations, to ask questions about the proposals and provide their feedback.
