With thanks to their partners - Thamesmead Youth Voice, Archway Project, Bexley Youth Service, Theatre Street Performing Arts, Thamesmead Gym and Pathways - as well as regular hirers, The Link Thamesmead is able to offer many activities, opportunities and spaces for hire.
Throughout their first year there has been singing, acting and dance classes, performing arts workshops, mechanics, film clubs, homework clubs, faith meetings, drop-ins, arts and crafts, an expanded community gym, indoor climbing, high and low ropes courses, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and so much more!
If that wasn’t enough, they look forward to welcoming Charlton Athletic Community Trust to The Link later this year.
The Link Thamesmead’s Centre Manager, Mark Blundell said: “It has been a fantastic year, welcoming so many people through the door. We have worked with all our partners to make sure what we offer is of purpose and benefit to young people and the wider community.
“We look forward to the future and will keep building upon the offer; developing programmes and activities at The Link, to make it a special place where people choose to get involved in opportunities within the community.”
Trust Thamesmead’s Head of Business Development, Richard Fishlock added: “We’ve had a great first year and it has been really rewarding seeing people of all ages and backgrounds coming to the centre and getting involved in a really diverse range of activities. Mark has built up a great team of staff and volunteers, all of whom provide a first class welcome. Onwards and upwards to an even more successful second year!”
The Link Thamesmead is a stunning, state-of-the-art community hub based in Belvedere Road under the Harrow Manor Way flyover.
Built out of nine once mainly disused arches, it was built with a £5m grant that Trust Thamesmead, with the help of Thamesmead Youth Voice, secured from the Department of Education’s myplace programme.
As well as offering activities, The Link Thamesmead offers opportunities ranging from training and volunteering to spaces for hire including meeting rooms, a recording studio, IT Suite, rehearsal room and a 160 seat theatre.
The building has to be seen to be believed: what they offer inside is something else!
