The Thamesmead Three

Trust Thamesmead's Receptionist, June Wells; her daughter, Community Development Officer Linda Delieu; and Marketing and Communications Officer, Julia Hickson dressed up as convicts to raise awareness of Cancer Research UK's fund raising event, ‘Wormwood Scrubs Sleepover' on Saturday 3 February.

The Thamesmead Three are taking part in memory of family members - Sel Wells, Nell Carter, Gus Darling, former Abbey Primary and Upton Primary School teacher, Kathy Hickson and all those who have ever been affected by cancer.

“It is a sad fact that one in three of us will suffer from cancer in our lifetime,” said Julia. “It is an awful disease and we want to do as much as we can to help eliminate the illness, so people don't have to go through the suffering and upset our families and friends have been through.”

“Cancer Research UK is making a huge difference,” said June. “My wish is to see cancer eradicated in my lifetime. I want to help them raise as much money as possible.”

“My mum and I raised £900 between us when we took part in a sleepover at Holloway Prison two years ago in aid of Cancer Research,” said Linda. “We are hoping to beat that figure this year.”

The Thamesmead Three need to raise a minimum of £200 each. If you would like to donate money to this worthy cause, please log onto their money raising web page at Just Giving or send a cheque made payable to ‘Cancer Research UK', FAO: The Thamesmead Three, Trust Thamesmead, 19a Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead Town Centre, London, SE28 8RA by Thursday 1 February.

Cancer Research is appealing for more people to take part in the Wormwood Scrubs Sleepover. Readers should contact Rebecca Harris, T: 020 7438 5439 or E: [email protected] for further information or an entry pack.

A big thank you to Inspirations fancy dress shop in Bexleyheath for providing the convict costumes free of charge and allowing The Thamesmead Three to be photographed on their premises.
