Trust Thamesmead is working in partnership with Volunteers Centre Bexley and Volunteers Centre Greenwich to celebrate National Volunteers Week 2007, when we will be promoting volunteering outside Morrisons in Thamesmead Town Centre, 11:00am-3:00pm on Saturday 2 June and attending a Speed Volunteering event at Slade Hall in Plumstead, 1:00-3:00pm on Tuesday 5 June.
“It is a great opportunity for us to explain the benefits of volunteering, celebrating the wonderful work carried out by volunteers and promoting the varied and exciting volunteering opportunities available,” said Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer, Linda Delieu, adding:
“Thamesmead has a wealth of fantastic community groups all run and managed by volunteers who are delivering services that that are much needed and appreciated.
“National Volunteers Week is also an opportunity to take time to think about how much time and effort local residents give to their groups and celebrate this. Quite often without the volunteers the groups would not exist.”
Liz Austin from Volunteers Centre Bexley is available to talk to about volunteering opportunities, 10:00am-12:00pm every Tuesday at Trust Thamesmead's offices, 19a Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead Town Centre (by the clock tower).
166 people accessed the service during 2006 and the volunteering opportunities available can complement employment and training that may be offered by Trust Thamesmead's Building Futures team.
