Planning Permission

Trust Thamesmead is pleased to announce that planning permission of the ‘demolition of the existing clubhouse and erection of replacement clubhouse incorporating a spectator seating area, provision of a new floodlit all-weather pitch, two multi-use games areas, car park and landscaping' has been granted on the grounds of the already existing Thamesmead Town Football Club.

Mick Hayes, Chief Executive, Trust Thamesmead
“I am very excited to deliver the news that Trust Thamesmead has received planning permission to go ahead with Sporting Club Thamesmead.

“The site will remain the home of Thamesmead Town F.C. but will become a community focused facility, providing new facilities for sport, physical activity and a resource for local school sport and community groups.

“A big thank you goes to Continuum Sport and Leisure Ltd, Saville Jones Architects, Trust Thamesmead staff and of course Thamesmead Town Football Club for all the hard work that has gone into the planning of Sporting Club Thamesmead.”

Nick Trim, Director, Continuum Sport & Leisure Ltd
"The Planning Permission notice from Bexley Council for Sporting Club Thamesmead represents a huge step forward not only for this project and Thamesmead Town FC but also Thamesmead as a whole. At the start of what is going to be a period of real change for Thamesmead the partnership between Trust Thamesmead and Bexley Council, and all parties involved in developing the scheme, has been vital for the success of the project to date and will be for the project's continued development.

The scheme will provide much need sport and recreation facilities for all members of the Thamesmead community. We are proud to be involved in a project that will bring about real lasting change for sport, health, education and community development in Thamesmead."

Mark Lee, Director, Thamesmead Town Football Club
“This is fantastic news for Thamesmead Town Football Club and the local community. The development will mark a new era for Thamesmead and its residents.”

Haydn Jones, Saville Jones Architects
“The overall objective of the design of the new building and sports facilities has been to create an easily accessible, inclusive building, which reinforces the open nature of the site and creates a building which appears to grow out of the landscape and is not simply placed on the land.

“The Sporting Club will also incorporate many environmentally conscious features to reduce energy and water use and increase the benefits obtained from renewable energy sources, such as solar panels for hot water, geothermal ground source heat pumps for heating, and rainwater harvesting to irrigate the pitches.  This sustainable development will help promote responsible healthy living through community and sports.”

Keith McMahon, 1st Team Manager, Thamesmead Town Football Club
"This is fantastic news, not just for Thamesmead Town Football Club, but for the community of Thamesmead.

“Thamesmead's a big area and there's nothing much here for the local community. Trust Thamesmead has really got behind us and this secures the future of the football club in the community.

"Now we will have leisure facilities that will provide a focus for the people in the town as well as a stadium that will be good enough for Blue Square Conference Football. It's a really big step forward for Thamesmead Town Football Club and it can only strengthen the club - it's a massive opportunity."

Thamesmead Town's supporter and fans representative Stewart Erridge
“This is exciting news for the club and for the town. It will enable us to confidently push for promotion to the Ryman League and also draw in extra support, which is much needed.”

Work begins on-site of Sporting Club Thamesmead in Autumn 2008, with completion due Autumn 2009/early 2010.
