Trust Thamesmead took 64 Veterans' on a day trip to the Imperial War Museum on Veterans' Day on Friday 27 June. The day started in Thamesmead Town Centre when the Veterans' boarded one of two coaches Trust Thamesmead laid on for the celebration.
Trust Thamesmead's Marketing and Communications Officer Julia Hickson who assisted the day's coordinator Roz Williams and also led one of the coaches said: “It was a fantastic turn out.
“Trust Thamesmead is here to work with the residents of Thamesmead and help them in many ways. One attendee told me she had brought her neighbour; somebody who had not been out of the house for four years other than to go to hospital. Another lady, a widow told me her friend had encouraged her to join the Monday and Wednesday bingo club held at the Jubilee Community Centre; where she found out about the day's event.
“It was fantastic to reach out to these people and to give those who gave so much to our country a day to remember and to see their interaction with school children who were also visiting the Museum.”
Trust Thamesmead not only provided return coaches to the Imperial War Museum but a free lunch and goodie bag for each attendee too.
Julia added: “We have since received letters of thanks from some of the attendees and suggestions for next year's event, w hich we are looking forward to already.”
