Sunday saw Vic Grimes undergo his first official public appearance since becoming Chair of Trust Thamesmead, at the Thamesmead YMCA Sailing Centre, where more than 30 young people from the 1st East Wickham Cubs and Scouts received a ‘taster' certificate for taking part in their first Royal Yacht Club's sailing session.
Vic Grimes, himself a one-time YMCA sailing centre student, congratulated everyone on achieving their sailing certificates and thanked the YMCA Sailing Centre and their volunteers for providing such a fantastic learning experience for young people in Thamesmead and its surrounding area.
George Reynolds OBE who manages the Thamesmead sailing centre said: “It was a fantastically sunny day and the cubs and scouts thoroughly enjoyed themselves whilst gaining their Sailing badge; most of them will return in the summer to undertake the ‘Stage One' certificate.
Adding: “Sailing is fantastic for groups and individuals. If you put someone in a boat who is scared of water, they need to deal with it. It helps people face their fears and enhances peoples self ability.”
