About Us
Trust Thamesmead is the only community development agency working exclusively for Thamesmead and we use our income to deliver direct services and to work with others to improve the quality of the lives of the 40,000 plus residents of Thamesmead, focusing on the most disadvantaged.
Our charitable objectives are focused on advancing education, improving health, getting more people back into work, strengthening the skills of local residents and putting in place much better social networks and community infrastructure.
In 2016, Trust Thamesmead became part of the Peabody Community Foundation. This follows on from when in 2014, Trust Thamesmead joined Gallions and Tilfen Land in becoming part of the Peabody Group. This means housing, community investment and over 100 acres of developable land in Thamesmead are now owned by a single, well-resourced organisation for the first time in a generation. Peabody has committed an initial £225m to the regeneration of Thamesmead. Together with other funding, this has pushed Thamesmead into the top 50 regeneration projects in the UK.
In February 2015, the Greater London Authority announced their support for two major housing zones in Thamesmead with a proposed more than £70m investment. The zones which fall in both the London Borough of Bexley and Royal Borough of Greenwich, will deliver nearly 3,000 new homes to rent and buy, create thousands of jobs and improve the local environment. This will support Peabody’s investment and act as a catalyst for further regeneration.
