Community Development

The Trust’s Community Development team is in place to support people living, working or enjoying their leisure time in Thamesmead.

Our team offers a range of services and support for individuals, voluntary groups and strategic larger organisations using the model of a 'community anchor', which means we can play a variety of roles including:

• Providing local community services
• Building partnerships with other organisations to bring in new services
• Identifying and securing external funding to bring new services and opportunities to Thamesmead
• Advocacy, representing Thamesmead at Greenwich, Bexley and London forums and helping local people to have a say in local issues and services
• Supporting local community organisations through capacity building, training, governance, fundraising and networking
• Promoting community led enterprise, generating independent income whilst having a social, economic and environmental impact
• Marketing and promotion of local facilities, services, opportunities and events
• Recruiting training and placing volunteers within the local community

The team all have specific targets for the inclusion and engagement of young people in recognition of the high percentage of our population under 25 years of age.

Lisa Ann Newton

Lisa is a Senior Community Development Officer who manages Central Thamesmead as well as Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning.
