Lisa Ann Newton
Lisa is a Senior Community Development Officer at the Trust with responsibility for Central Thamesmead as well as Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning.
Before joining the Trust, Lisa worked in community development for around 14 years, 10 of which spent in the social housing sector.
"I really enjoy what I do. For me it’s about people – helping them through partnership work to get the most out of their community, environment and also from their own lives. With collective support, real changes can happen that can have a massive positive impact on people's lives."
Central Thamesmead
Central Thamesmead and especially the Moorings is an area which needs a lot of love and attention and has huge potential.
Thamesmead hidden gem, Tump 53 will shortly be reopening after securing £50,000 from People’s Millions in November 2013. Work is underway to bring the former One O’Clock club back into use in Birchmere Park and there are successful community gardening and growing projects in the local area.
"We are going to start holding regular regional meetings with keen residents to ensure people’s views on Central Thamesmead are heard. If you have an idea or you would like to help out in anyway, please do get in touch."
Education, Skills & Lifelong Learning
It’s been proved that learning has so many benefits for individuals. It can help people to secure jobs, improve their health and physical wellbeing, meet new friends, start up businesses and give people a sense of achievement.
"My area of work will be to encourage, bring in learning activities into Thamesmead and secure partnerships with providers to make learning more accessible for people.
"My other area of work is to engage more closely with the schools in Thamesmead so that we can support each other’s work to ensure that we offer the best to both students and parents alike. I am currently looking at re-launching the Trust’s ‘T’riffic Thamesmead’ project with local schools celebrating all that’s good about Thamesmead."
