Tickets Available for Thamesmead Art Exhibition

The Trust will be presenting artwork by the Bexley London Education Authority's (LEA) gifted and talented students from several Bexley schools, including the Business Academy Bexley (BAB), which were made at workshops which took place at the Academy during the school summer holidays.

The exhibition, which will run 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday 13 October 2010 at our office; 19a Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead Town Centre, SE28 8RA, will display students posters applied to wooden panels to create a modern collage.

Two prizes will be awarded; one young person will receive art shop vouchers for being the Critics Choice with a panel made-up of Basia Deptuch from Tate Modern; Elizabeth Stratton who is Subject Leader of Art at the Business Academy Bexley, Gallery Founder of Fish.E Gallery Bruce Stinson, Director of AluStretch Artists Services and course leader/Art Teacher at the BAB Marq Kearey, with the second award for the Most Nominated Piece of Art, as voted by the evening's attendees.

Trust Thamesmead secured the funding for the project which ‘hot housed' students, including some from the Academy, during a summer workshop which also saw them visit the Tate Modern's collection of Pop Art and Arte Povera, giving students the opportunity to view relevant artworks from the collection and completing a programme of research and investigation into art movements.

Marq Kearey said “Thanks to Trust Thamesmead, the students have been given a fantastic opportunity in attending the Tate Modern-the vocational side to art practice-and being able to showcase their work.

“The Gifted and Talented workshop was an outstanding achievement. The students focus and investigation of their art practice can only be excellent preparation for their exams and their development as individuals contributing to our culturally dynamic city."

Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer Linda Delieu “The summer workshop proved popular with the young people which also coincided with the Holiday Scheme, which the Trust also helped the BAB gain funding for, which took place over three weeks during the summer break. Led by Trevor Cross Extended Schools Manager and funded by Bexley Extended Schools, the young people aged 11 to 16, enjoyed trips to Stubbers Adventure Centre-Cineworld & Tenpin Bowling, Madame Tussauds, as well as educational and team building activities to help improve confidence.”
