Introducing The Good Life

Trust Thamesmead today (Monday 5 March 2012) presented Thamesmead resident and Moorings Action Together community group member, Ray Woodage, with a voucher to be spent in a shop in Thamesmead Town Centre, after winning the Birchmere Community Garden project naming competition.

“Volunteers of the Birchmere Community Garden project asked that we name the garden, so it had its own identity from the park.” Said Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer, Linda Delieu.

“We asked Thamesmead residents to suggest names via Trust Thamesmead's website, social media sites and at a Trust event held last month.

“We had a very positive response to the competition and some very good suggestions, with the committee having the hard job of agreeing the winner. After much deliberation, ‘The Good Life Garden - Birchmere Park', as suggested by Thamesmead resident Ray Woodage, was the winner!”

Ray said “I thought The Good Life Garden flowed well and I wanted it to be positive, as there is so much doom and gloom in the world right now; I wanted to use the word ‘good' in the title. As for ‘life'; the garden will be nurturing plants and trees and help community groups to grow, so I couldn't think of a better word.”

Linda who supports the project on behalf of Trust Thamesmead, alongside John-Paul Taberdo from London Wildlife Trust and Groundwork as part of the European Social Fund's, Cultivating Communities project added “A big thank you to everyone who suggested a name for the garden, we had a very hard time deciding.”
