World Challenge Boot Fair

** Please note, the World Challenge Boot Fair on 1 April 2012 has been cancelled. Please read on to find out more about what the aspiring students are doing to raise money for their worthy cause. **

Eleven sixth formers from Business Academy Bexley will be hosting a boot fair in the school's ground in Yarnton Way, DA18 4DW, 7:30am-12:30pm on Sunday 1 April.

The event is one of several that have been managed by the team of pupils aged 16-18, who need to raise £1100 each by May, to raise money to fund a trip to Morocco, where they will help to not only build a school but a community as part of World Challenge, a schools expedition company who offer a range of programmes focussing on the education of young people, including teamwork, leadership skills, confidence and self-motivation.

BAB's sixth form's Head Girl, Julie To said “World Challenge is an international organisation that sends students to developing countries which is not only a great learning opportunity for us but it will help people in other countries.”

Danielle Kember said “The trip will not only enable us to help build a community within a deprived area of Morocco but it will help us to find out more about ourselves, how we cope under pressure and embrace a new culture.”

Helena Ajani said “This will be the first time I'm not travelling with my parents - the trip will help me become independent.”

Susan Agboola said “We have worked really well as a group in our fundraising efforts but this will take our team building to another level.”

The Business Academy Bexley's Head of the Sixth Form, Assistant Head teacher, Will Pemberton said “World Challenge is a fantastic initiative which offers young people experiences that may not otherwise be available to them. It is an inspirational project that illustrates life is all about endeavour and teaches pupils that they can achieve anything they put their minds to.”

“Our Sixth Form has seen rapid improvement in the past 1 ½ years and this is just one brilliant example of how our students not only gain an excellent education but also have the chance to have an outstanding sixth form experience”

Readers interested in selling their goods at the boot fair should contact T: 020 8320 4800 or E: [email protected]. Spaces are subject to availability and cost £10 per car, £15 per van, with a £1 entry fee for buyers.

Other fundraising initiatives the group have undertaken include raffles, cake sales, a quiz night, car washing, non-uniform days, a Moroccan themed evening and yet to come; the above mentioned boot fair and a talent show for pupils starring ITV1's Britain's Got Talent's runners-up, Twist and Pulse.
