Ken is Our New Vice Chair

After five years on our Board Janice Ward-Wilson has stepped down. We are very sorry indeed to lose her but delighted to welcome Ken Miller as Vice-Chair.

Ken has worked in education for 32 years as a teacher, teacher trainer, advisory teacher, Inspector and local authority senior officer. He has a passion for active teaching and learning and an in-depth understanding of education systems and now works as a freelance education consultant.

Ken has also recently taken up the role of the Trust's Quality Assurance Champion and is driven by the wish to evidence the overall impact the Trust is making to local life.

He said: “I have now served on the Trust's Board for two years and time has flown. I am on both the Finance and Community Services Sub Committees and my main objective is to understand the impact that the Trust is making in terms of the resources it has available to deploy. I always ask the question 'What would have happened if the Trust did not exist?' It is becoming clearer that the Trust is a major force for assisting transformational change in Thamesmead.”

In tendering her resignation for personal reasons Janice said: “I have been a Trustee since summer 2007 and will have served for five years this summer 2012. I have seen the Board and the Trust go through some tumultuous and exciting times and have learnt so much and grown professionally as a result.  My association with the Trust began in 1999 as Service Manager of a local regeneration funded project, and I value very highly the work that it does so diligently.

“It is a source of great regret to me that I am resigning but nothing lasts forever and the time has come for me to make way for others to serve the wonderful Thamesmead community.

“The Board has developed to a position where it is stable and functioning very well; this has not always been the case, and I am satisfied to have been a small part of its development to an effective team. The Trust is in such a great place now, which is amazing and will be a continuing force for good in the community.

”I want to thank the Chair Vic Grimes and my fellow Trustees and Directors, CEO Mick Hayes, Company Secretary Helen Webb and the wonderful staff team at the Trust for all their comradeship and support over the years.”

Following the recent resignation of Trust Board Vice-Chair Janice Ward-Wilson it has been announced that this role has now been filled by Board member Ken Miller.
