Trust Thamesmead will be celebrating National Volunteers Week (1-7 June) and Adult Learners Week (14-20 June), 2-6 June.

We will be holding an event which invites individuals to attend two different workshops on Friday 6 June;

12:00-1:00pm, Getting started in volunteering; find out why people volunteer, what opportunities are available to you, meet existing volunteers and take part in a fun volunteering quiz
1:30-2:30pm, Community group support; aimed at existing and new community groups who want to find out more about governance and how Trust Thamesmead’s Community Development Team can help

A Capital Clean-Up event hosted by Trust Thamesmead and supported by North West Kent Countryside Partnership and Thames Water will also be taking place on Friday 6 June, 10:00am-1:00pm.

Trust Thamesmead’s Community Development Officer, Alex Forrester said: “Capital Clean-up is a Mayor of London initiative, encouraging residents to help tackle litter, rubbish and graffiti. The day’s aim will be to clear as much litter and weeds from the southern end of the Cory footbridge opposite The Link Thamesmead. We hope as many residents as possible turn-out to help us.”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said, “Bringing people together to roll up their sleeves and tackle litter and mess in their communities can make the world of difference, giving areas a mini facelift and making them more enjoyable for locals and visitors alike. I hope as many people as possible get involved in Capital Clean Up and help boost community pride by keeping our great city tidy and litter free.”

Those interested in the above events should contact Trust Thamesmead’s Community Development Officer, Sarah Feleppa, T: 020 8320 4490 or E; [email protected]

Trust Thamesmead will also be working with staff, local businesses and community groups throughout the week to highlight our volunteer programme, as well as holding a celebratory evening for pre-existing volunteers.

The Capital Clean-up forms a part of a bigger project picture working in partnership with the London Borough of Bexley which will see funding from the Cory Environmental Trust in Britain which will light-up the Cory footbridge in the shape of a Peace Sculpture, providing much needed lighting to create a safe and welcoming place for people to walk.
