Thirty nine jobs were pledged at Thamesmead’s first ever Business Networking event which took place at The Link Thamesmead on Wednesday 4 July.
The day was managed by the Bexley Skills and Employment Partnership (BSEP), a group of local organisations who work in theLondon Borough of Bexley including Trust Thamesmead and Peabody, who are working to underpin strategic priorities designed to ensure learning and skills have a real impact on the personal, social and economic success of local residents and businesses.
It gave businesses the chance to meet other like-minded companies and find out more about the support local employment and training service providers offer to residents, how they can help businesses recruit the right candidates and support Bexley Skills and Employment Partnership’s aim to increase employment and skills across the borough.
The day also gave businesses in the Bexley area the opportunity to hear from organisations including Peabody’s Thamesmead Strategy Group regarding the regeneration of the aream and tesco.com regarding how they benefited from working with members of BSEP when recruiting hundreds of new staff. There was also a speech from an apprentice who succeeded with a placement through Resources Plus, talking about their experience and the benefits of employing apprentices.
Trust Thamesmead’s Head of Operational Services, Dawn Young said: “It was fantastic to see so many businesses come together under one roof in Thamesmead. The area is going under massive transformation and the opportunities available to businesses and residents alike reflect this.”
