It’s plain sailing at the YMCA!

More than 50 young people took to Southmere Lake in Thamesmead on Sunday (2 October) at the Thamesmead YMCA's annual sailing day.

All the youngsters taking part had completed Royal Yachting Association courses during the Easter and Summer holidays and were keen to show off their new found skills.

Centre Principal George Reynolds OBE said: “We hold this event every year. It's a day when the young people use the skills we have taught them to give something back. Each young person paid £3 to sail so we raised £150 in all. We are very proud of them.”

Jackie Smith, the Chair of the Board of Trustees at Trust Thamesmead presented the young sailors with medals donated by the YMCA's voluntary leaders.
