Peabody Promise in Thamesmead

Seventeen members of staff from across the Peabody Group made a splash in Thamesmead on Friday as they painted Thamesmead community centre, The Atrium for the benefit of its users.

Staff attended as part of the organisation’s Peabody Promise which allows staff to volunteer two days of their time per annum to benefit community groups and projects across London. This amounts to 14,000 hours per year.

Peabody’s Chief Executive, Stephen Howlett said: “It is fantastic to see staff from across the Peabody Group coming together for the benefit of the Thamesmead community. The Atrium is a fantastic resource for older people and we hope this will show them, and others, how committed we are, not only as Peabody but as individuals. We really want to help make positive changes in Thamesmead.”

The Atrium which is based on the ground floor of Teeswater Court was created out of a row of once-disused garages which were transformed into a community centre by the building’s owner, Gallions Housing Association. The centre now caters for the over 50s, offering activities such as line dancing, ballroom dancing, Tai Chi and darts.
