Thamesmead Job Club

Thamesmead residents are receiving more training and employment support than ever before thanks to a new job club which has opened.

Thamesmead Job Club offers residents access to computers to carry out job searches and a number of workshops including help writing cover letters, CVs and job application forms, interview techniques, Universal Jobmatch and benefits advice.

Thamesmead Job Club complements Trust Thamesmead’s Building Futures department which offers free one-to-one employment and training support.  Between April 2014 to present, 472 new clients have signed-up for one-to-one support from Building Futures, 500 of which have benefited from free training and support into work.

Thamesmead Job Club is a partnership project between Trust Thamesmead part of the Peabody Group and the London Borough of Bexley’s employment service, Resources Plus. Exclusively available to unemployed residents of Thamesmead who have access to public funding and the right to work in the United Kingdom.

Peabody’s Chief Executive, Stephen Howlett said: “More than 150 Thamesmead residents have already enrolled with Thamesmead Job Club, reaffirming why we launched it – to help support even more Thamesmead residents with their search for work. This complements the one-to-one support service Building Futures offers and we look forward to working with residents to make sure they are work ready and gain the employment of their choice which can only have a positive impact, not only on individuals but their families and the community too.”

Thamesmead resident, Laura Compton, 29 said: “I only signed-up to Trust Thamesmead’s Job Club two weeks ago and have already been asked to attend an interview. The staff are all so helpful and I don’t feel judged but respected. I would recommend the Job Club to anyone looking for a job or help with their CV.”

Thamesmead resident, Bulent Ismmet said: “I would give the Job club 10 out of 10. Everyone is really helpful.”

Trust Thamesmead is part of the Peabody Group who are supporting 1000 unemployed Londoners every year to secure employment.

Thamesmead Job Club is open 10:00am-12:00pm and 2:00-4:00pm, Monday-Friday at our office, 19a Joyce Dawson Way, Thamesmead Town Centre, SE28 8RA.
