Around 90 people took part in Thamesmead's first ever 5k and Family One Mile on Saturday (26 September).
5k participants started in Crossway Park, before running along the Ridgeway to the picturesque first phase of the Lesnes to Crossness Path, before returning along the same route.
Meanwhile, the Family One Mile saw parents, grandparents, children and grandchildren run two laps around Crossway Park, before crossing the finish line.
Peabody's Executive Director of Community Investment, Stephen Burns, who also took part in the 5k said: “What a fantastic turnout for the first ever Thamesmead 5k and Family One Mile. It is great to see everyone here, raising money for the Greenwich and Bexley Hospice. I hope everyone goes on to benefit from Now's the Time's £1 activity programme - it is a fantastic three-year project which offers affordable activity classes, right on people's doorstep.”
35-year-old James MacDonald from Bexleyheath who was not only the first over the finish line (19 minutes) but part of Cambridge Harriers running group based in Bexley, who won the team category, said: “This is a great event. It has really brought the community together and encouraged people to get active. I have been running for five years - I moved to Australia and enjoyed the outdoor life and have carried on running ever since. It is a great way to get fit and meet new people.”
Meanwhile, Mohammed Taha who ran with his wife, Hana, seven-year-old Maria and 10-year-old Saleh said: “We have all had great fun today and to be the winners of the fun run is fantastic. We are very happy.”
Entry fees and refreshments raised £400, that is enough to support an inpatient at Greenwich and Bexley Hospice for an entire day.
Thank you and well done to everyone involved.
