Capital Clean-ups in Thamesmead

Thamesmead residents are being invited to take part in Capital Clean-up events across the town over the coming weeks.

Trust Thamesmead which is part of the Peabody Group, is taking part in the Mayor of London's initiative which encourages volunteers to come together and help spruce up their neighbourhood.

Peabody's CEO, Stephen Howlett said: “We look forward to working alongside Thamesmead residents to help us once again spruce up neighbourhoods as part of the Mayor of London's initiative. This can only be done with help from volunteers. We hope as many people as possible will join us in making their areas look cleaner and tidier and build upon the great community spirit which is so evident in Thamesmead.”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “This summer's Capital Clean-up truly is utilising the good will of thousands of volunteers hell bent on doing their bit to clean-up our city.

“This scheme makes a real difference in transforming and re-energising neglected local areas to create a better, cleaner environment for the millions of people that live and visit London.”

Trust Thamesmead is working on a number of environmental projects including clean-ups, recycling and improving areas of the public realm including the Lesnes to Crossness Path. Working in partnership with both London authorities found in Thamesmead, London Borough of Bexley and Royal Borough of Greenwich, the Peabody Group is also working to improve the Ridgeway which runs from the south to the north of Thamesmead.

More than 3000 volunteers across London are expected to take part in the Capital Clean-up campaign which runs from May until September 2015.

In 2014, 222 Capital Clean-up events took place across London, involving 3533 individuals who volunteered 8864 hours of their time.
