Limestone Community Hall Makeover

Trust Thamesmead benefited from the annual Group Community Involvement programme provided by one of the UK's largest energy companies, EDF Energy, who supply gas and electricity to five million customers in the UK.

Themed ‘Helping Hands', the scheme enables EDF staff to contribute up to two days of their work time to take part in voluntary work in the community.

The Limestone community hall garden makeover involved up to 25 management staff cutting back shrubs, constructing flower bed(s), planting flowers, general tidying up and also some painting.

It was unusual for so many managers to take part in a volunteering challenge at any one time but EDF felt it was important for them to lead by example and raise the profile of the ‘Helping Hands' scheme in the local area.

The project, which took place on Tuesday 3 October means a lot to the Trust, as not only does it mean a saving on our budgets, but it also serves as a possible link to further community engagement partnerships with EDF.

Trust Thamesmead Community Development Office, Benjamin Agyemang, said: “As a community development organisation, the Community Hall is one of our vehicles for engaging the community and promoting cohesion among residents

“The Garden in particular, apart from encouraging new fauna will provide a good open place for interaction among diverse residents.

“The trust is grateful to EDF team and the Volunteer Centre Bexley who fostered the link between us. We are excited at the prospect of this relationship and look forward to future projects with EDF in the community.”
