Simply the Best Black History Month Ever!

A total of six events were delivered last week as part of Trust Thamesmead's celebration of Black History Month, including drama and music workshops by Whippersnappers, who did a two day tour of Thamesmead primary schools and Acorn Pre-School.

On Thursday night, the award winning poet Patience Agbabi held a poetry session at the Arnott Community Hall, in conjunction with Team Steps, which gave young people the opportunity to experience Patience's work as well as gain some useful tips for developing their own.

The week ended at The Atrium over 50's group, where up to 70 older residents partied the afternoon away with lunch and a show stopping performance from Tina Ballentino, a Tina Turner look-a-like.

By the end of the afternoon there were certainly some Steamy Windows in The Atrium.

The event was a huge success, getting people out of their houses - some who hadn't been out in three weeks and reuniting older residents who had not seen each other for up to five years.

Within 20 minutes of the event finishing, the Trust received two phone calls from attendees, telling us how much fun they had and how much they were looking forward to doing something similar again soon.
